This is The Savvy Traveler, I'm Rudy Maxa. Many of us travel to educate ourselves. But have you ever stopped to consider that maybe the information you're receiving isn't entirely accurate? That maybe some of the people who write those historical markers on monuments have an agenda? Author and sociologist James Loewen does consider these things and in his recent book, Lies Across America: What Our Historic Sites Get Wrong, Loewen examines the historical inaccuracies of more than 100 tourist sites across the United States. I recently spoke with Jim and asked him how the heck this could happen!
