Del McCoury Interview

There's an acclaimed Blue Grass band that has been on the road for decades, and what makes them a bit different is that they're a family. The Del McCoury Band, with two Grammy nominations and 24 awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, has literally grown up on the family bus. Del plays guitar, son Ronnie is on mandolin, and son Robbie picks the banjo -- they're two generations of some of the best bluegrass-pickers today.
I went down to an LA bluegrass club one night and sat down with the boys before
they took the stage. Robbie is 30 now, as seasoned a traveler as he
is a musician. He is the baby of this talented musical family. Del
is the patriarch of this clan, but when he takes his spot on the stage
each night, the line between the two generations fades.
