Exploring the Outdoors
The best bargain in American is exploring and camping on our
public lands. (I am sure that our unspoiled, unique, and
varied landscapes bring billions from foreign travelers.) The
National Forests often supply the most spaced-out and inviting
campsites offering good maps and trails. The National Parks
might be best off season. Excellent guide books and ranger
talks and meeting other campers are part of the experience.
Wonderful names spring to mind: Denali, Wrangell-St.Elias, the
Never Summer mountains of Co., canoeing the middle-fork of the
Salmon R. in Idaho, the Grand Canyon. I am 69 now and have had
a lifetime of bargain vacations and it is good to know that they
are bargains that you can return to and they will be there for
generations to come.
