Smarte Carte Responds
I listened to your show today, Rudy and was aghast when you told the
world how you always search out abandoned baggage carts at airports so
you don't have to pay $2.50 for them.
I am the senior business manager for Smarte Carte's international
efforts. I don't believe that we have an airport location that charges
over $2.00. Most of the international locations that we have charge
between $1.00 and $1.50.
We make a large investment in a location and charge a minimal
fee so that travelers such as yourself can benefit from the
service. We ensure that the carts are where the travelers need
them, when they need them. We employ people at these locations
thus feeding the local economy. Sure, it's a business; I don't
do it for free.
When you are stuck in some airport waiting for a plane or trying
to get 3-5 bags and your family through customs, a Smarte Carte
(at any price) can be a pretty welcome sight. The airports where
you think the carts are free most likely hide customer service
charges in the price of your ticket and you end up paying for a
baggage cart anyway.
Now, my favorite gripe is traveling through Canada where you
have to pay a hefty fee to get out of the country! That's worth
complaining about.
