Macho Italy
Greetings from Belgium!
Italy is still such a macho country that the women as well as the men have to stand to use the WC. I know this is not always true, but be prepared. It was really a surprise to me when I first encountered these facilities. I looked at it and then tried to figure out how I was suppose to use it. It wasn't too difficult to figure out, but what it was, was a surprise. Now I have to say that I love Italy, you can't beat the people or the food, except in Aug. I would choose Italy over France any day of the week.
Just read your article on France and you are soooo right. It is the only place that I have visited that I wanted to leave before my vacation was due to end. If I had been able I would have gotten back on the plane long before my departure time. After saying this I have to say that PARIS is not all of France. If you get out of Paris you will find the people are much different.
Living in Belgium for the past two years I have found that if I was asked where to go in Europe with limited time, I would have to say Belgium. This little country is so overlooked, that it is a pity. In Belgium your are two hours from anywhere in northern Europe, Paris, London, Amsterdam and Cologne. The people are very friendly and they love Americans. They have not forgotten what the Americans did during the two world wars. It has been a pleasure to live here and I will be sorry to leave at the end of this year.
