Getaways
This may not be too exotic, but when I lived in New York, my
favorite place was Prospect Park, bordering the Park Slope
neighborhood in Brooklyn.
It's really a gem, and although the
park is used by a great variety of people, especially on the
weekend, it has enough trails and space to really get away from
the hustle and bustle of the city. And, unlike Central Park in
Manhattan, there are places where you can't see any buildings, so
you really can get the feeling of escape. And it borders both
the Brooklyn Botanical Garden (another favorite) and the Brooklyn
Museum, lately in the news.
But there are actually several "public spaces" in Manhattan, too,
where you can get some quiet, if you have a minute to spare, in
New York. These are spaces that were mandated inside the lobbies
of new buildings, and a few of them really provide a pleasant
respite.
