Dress Code for Air Travel

One of my students said that another teacher had told the class that he had just come back from a trip from Buffalo to Philadelphia. When going to board in Buffalo with his 18 year old son, the gate attendant stopped him and said the son couldn't board because he was not dressed "properly"(he was wearing shorts, sandals, and a T-shirt). The teacher offered to run to the gap in the concourse to get a pair of jeans but the attendant said that would take too long and she would not hold the plane. The teacher asked for a supervisor who said they had rules but the 2 could board anyway. The gate attendant said "no", called a higher supervisor and the 2 were turned away from the flight, bought the jeans and made the next flight...4 hours later. Is this a feasible story?
