Travel Mistakes
My wife and I visited Spain in 1998, ostensibly to see our
daughter who was based (U.S. Navy) at Rota. In reality, like you,
we went for the food and the wonderful sights of Andalusia.
While in Toledo, we saw all of the usual sights.
After seeing the Alcazar and the historical museum we set out to visit the
old
Jewish synagogue, which is now an art museum. But, we got lost.
Seeing a group of elderly women visiting along the street, I
decided this would be a good opportunity to get directions and to
practice my high school Spanish at the same time.
So, I asked the women, "Donde estamos." I simply asked "where are we." They
looked at me as if I were crazy. Then one said, "Estamos aqui."
She said "We are here." It was a perfectly logical answer. I felt
like the fool nonetheless.
