Defending Gatlinburg!
Today's show someone called in and thought Pigeon Forge was the trip
they'd like to forget. I'm just writing in to defend Pigeon Forge....
Yes, it does have all that the man claimed- mini gold, go karts,
water parks, outlet malls... Dollywood... and "The Dixie Stampede".
That's part of it's charm, be corny, relax and a little bit of
everything for everyone. Just a short drive and you're in one of the
most visited National Parks in our Nation- or challenge one of the
kids at mini golf! I just spent Easter at Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg
with my daughter and son-in-law.... we had a blast. From the Nascar
Speedway (go-karts) to driving up the mountain it was a fantastic
time.
My biggest surprise was the Dixie Stampede. I've been through the
area quite a few times but had always shunned "Dixie Stampede." It
just sounded too hokey. Well, this time we went and had a whoopin'
hollerin' time. It's on the same concept as the Medieval Times-
seating around a arena... but this time it's the North vs the South.
When you buy your ticket they ask you where you're from. I took it
they were just being friendly as everyone I encountered. Then I found
out why... they seat you according to your home state. Beautiful
trained horses, comedy, quite a show. Plus the food, even though
eaten with your fingers, was delicious! More food than one should
eat... a whole roasted chicken, pork medallions, broasted potato,
biscuits and for dessert a cherry turnover.
My advice- it's what you make of it.
