PINs: Four Numbers Max!
Hi, Savvy Traveler.
I heard Mr. Maxa say on a recent show that using ATM cards is a
convenient way to access funds while traveling, not to mention the
wholesale exchange rate you get. I completely agree. The only caveat
I would add is this: In many places (including parts of Western
Europe, Southeast Asia, Central America, and the Middle East), your
ATM card PIN must be EXACTLY four numbers. I have friends,
particularly those with commercial bank accounts (rather than credit
union accounts), who have six- and seven-number PINs. They found
themselves on the other side of the world having to contact their
banks to change their PINs.
So before you leave, make sure your PIN is four numbers -- no more, no less.
