Camping at Walmart - Two Views
Dear Savvy Traveler,
As an RV'er, I was interested in the piece you recently aired on camping at Wal-Mart. It was a good story, but it struck me as a bit one-sided in that there seemed to be a lot of "pros" and few "cons" regarding the issue.
I've got mixed emotions about Wal-Mart camping myself, given concerns about safety and the unfair competition with established campgrounds. I can certainly empathize with the need to pull over and rest, and have done so myself at truck stops, restaurants and other convenient locations. But it still bothers me when I see a group of RVs parked at our local Wal-Mart, just a few miles from several perfectly nice, inexpensive campgrounds.
Anyone interested in this issue might want to check out http://www.roamingtimes.com. They sponsor a forum that covers a variety of camping-related topics, including this one.
I enjoy the program and listen whenever I can. Thanks!

Dear Savvy Traveler,
I've been an over-the-road truck driver for 21 years, and the new Wal-Mart supercenters are wonderful! I even carry the Wal-Mart atlas so I can find the ones that aren't right next to the interstate.
Most truckers now have refrigerators in their trucks, so stocking up on fresh food from Wal-Mart is a welcome change from eating out. Also, I now travel with two demanding cats, and you know we can't run low on cat food.
The supercenters are also open 24 hrs, so it's very convenient to stop in at 2 am when they're not busy to do my weekly shopping.
Thanks for your story!
Stephanie
