This week: A Slice of America Abroad

When we travel, sometimes we discover hidden treasures. Perhaps we happen upon a place that conjures up memories of the past, awakening old thoughts or feelings we forgot we had. A few weeks ago I asked you to tell us about the most interesting, unexpected slice of America you discovered while you were abroad. With the Fourth of July weekend coming up, it seemed like the perfect time to hear about those places that may have touched that patriotic place in your heart. Or raised your cholesterol, as we discovered by all of your reports of the proliferation of the Golden Arches and Kentucky Fried Everything throughout the world. But we were still amazed at the diversity of slices of Americana that are out there and the array of feelings they inspired. Listen in.

Whether it's a slice of America or the statues on Easter Island, whenever you come across an intriguing sight, it's only natural to reach for the Nikon and click off a few shots. But what about those times when you didn't have a camera, a camcorder or a canvas or any other way to capture that moment of a lifetime you experienced while traveling. Missed Photo-Ops.

We want to hear about the ultimate, most beautiful or interesting moment in the world that you experienced... but didn't capture. Perhaps you were trekking through the rain forest when suddenly you came upon the rare and never before seen orange-bellied, wing-tipped barking sparrow... but you left the camera in your other bag! Or maybe you were in a monastery in Tuscany and overheard two monks passionately discussing the local soccer match. Some of these moments you can't photograph, but they still leave an indelible imprint on your mind. A memory you wish you could somehow save, but couldn't.
