Rundown for the Week of December 8, 2000
On the Frankincense Trail, Part Two
Four thousand years ago, camel caravans trekked across the Arabian peninsula, laden with frankincense, bound for Rome, Persia, and the Far East. Treasured by the ancients as an aromatic, frankincense is more familiar to us as one of the gifts of the Magi. In our series on the frankincense route, we join the Savvy Traveler's Tom Verde as he picks up the trail in the mountains of southern Oman.
Hobo Confessions
You probably LIKE having a roof over your head and a car in the driveway. But some people long for a carefree life on the open road - or the rails. But before you sell the house, meet Chris, a modern-day hobo who dropped out of school and into a hardscrabble life of hopping trains.
Bas taste Tour: The Orange Show
Depending on your point of view, the Orange Show may be a visionary folk museum or a monstrous eyesore. One thing's for sure: It's Houston's most baffling roadside attraction. Can Cash Peters make sense of it? Find out during this week's Bad Tate Tour.
The Light at the Center of the Tunnel
To most people, Norway means fjords, Vikings and Scream painter Edvard Munch. Now add "world's longest tunnel" to the list. Last week, the first cars cruised through the new, 15-mile Laerdal Tunnel, and wait 'till you find out what's inside!
Roff Smith Interview: Cold Beer and Crocodiles
We've all reached that point in our lives where we ask: "What am I doing with my life?" Roff Smith's search led him around Australia, some ten thousand miles-all on a bicycle.
