Travelers' Aid: Airline Strikes and Things to Do in Paris (6/15/2001)

Topping this week's Traveler's Aid is the less-than-two week countdown to an American Airlines flight attendant strike. Keep reading the papers for the latest news on this one...but also, remember President Bush's pledge not allow any airlines strikes this year. Just after assuming office, Bush stopped the mechanics from striking at Northwest, and the signs are already pointing toward another presidential intervention at American.

The deadline for the strike is June 30th. So if you're flying American any time in July, take precautions: follow the news...keep those customer service numbers handy...and get paper tickets. This is the most important thing you can do. If the airline does shut down, another carrier will usually accept your tickets, as long as you can actually hand them over.
