There was a brief mention in the papers this week that sent a particularly chilling tingle down my spine. I saw it in the LA Times: It was about how Jordanian officials managed to break up a plot to blow up two resort hotels near the ancient city of Petra, on the edges of the Wadi Al Araba desert. Jordanian counter-terrorism authorities intercepted a call from Jordan to Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. They arrested two men just before September 11. Three others are still wanted.
Here's why this is scary: They were targeting resort hotels. Tourists. People traveling to Jordan see one the greatest achievements of humankind. Now we speak with Mark Sullivan, an editor with Fodors - the guide book publishers.
