Deal of the Week: Rainforest Adventure (5/17/2002) Diana: I'm Diana Nyad, and you're listening to the Savvy Traveler. We caught our Travel-Expert-in-Residence, Rudy Maxa, in Scotland last week, but he's back in his hometown of Washington, DC. Hi, Rudy. Rudy: Hi, Diana. How are you? Diana: Never better. What have you got for us as your Deal of the Week? Rudy: How about a discounted eco-lodge tour of a Costa Rican rainforest? Diana: Sounds like fun, but it also sounds...wet. Rudy: Actually, this deal is good for May and June, as well as September and October, which happen to be the driest months to travel in the Costa Rican highlands. Diana: Tell us about it. Rudy: This is a 10-day, 9-night tour of Tortuguero National Park, which boasts the largest remaining rainforest in Central America. It's home to 320 species of birds, three kinds of monkeys, green sea turtles, and hundreds of other wild things -- not to mention a volcano. Diana: Are we roughing it on this one? Rudy: We are not. You'll be put up in a very nice room in an eco-lodge, where the cuisine is top-notch. Temperatures should average between 70 and 80 degrees. Diana: And the cost? Rudy: Total per-person cost, including airfare within Costa Rica, is $1,600 -- which is $200 per person off the regular, high-season price. If you work it out, it comes to about $160 a day. Diana: Not bad. How do we learn more? Rudy: These trips are run by Costa Rica Expeditions, so click over to www.costaricaexpeditions.com for more details. Diana:
Thanks, Rudy. Talk to you next week.
