Everyone carries a cell phone that hooks up to the Internet -- a feature
that's still new in the States. And when a subway train pulls into a
station, passengers about to board are greeted with a seven-second,
original musical score meant to soothe jangled, urban nerves. The music is
different at each station.
The piece de resistance, though, was the toilet in the swanky Tokyo
Park Hyatt. Its seat is electrically heated. Sit on it, and a control
panel on the side provides the option of a stream of warm water followed by
warm air. The darn thing does everything but apply baby powder and diaper
you.
