Tourists in Scotland
While honeymooning in the ancestral homeland of
Scotland, my wife and I had the distinct
displeasure of sitting next to an American couple
who were decidedly ugly.
At a pub in Carbridge, the lunch special was
salmon. Fresh salmon. From the Spey River, which
runs through Carbridge. Spey salmon is without a
doubt the finest in the world. But the uglies
next to us had different ideas. When my wife
ordered, the ugly next to her leaned over and,
rather loudly, warned her against ordering it.
Our waiter was the owner of the pub and was
visibly dismayed at her comments (this wasn't the
first complaint from this ugly).
The ugly's rationale for not ordering the fish?
It had bones in it. She was, doubtless, a
connoisseur of fish sticks. Predictably, the
salmon was superb.
