The Incredible Shrinking Coach Seat

Have you noticed that as the amount of legroom in coach has shrunk and the amount of junk stuffed into the pouch that hangs from the back of the next seat has increased?

I have. Here's what I found taking up knee room on my current United Airlines flight from Orlando to Chicago: in-flight magazine, separately bound shopping supplement to in-flight magazine, United Emporium catalog, airsickness bag, headphones, plastic hose to connect the headphones, and safety instructions. Total thickness: more than 3 inches!

About a year ago I realized I could dump all that stuff in the overhead compartment and take some pressure off my knees. I recommend this strategy to all your tall listeners. It's cheaper than an upgrade and it makes a big difference!
