My Favorite Travel Author

Stephen Ambrose's ability to bring a place, a series of events and an era to life have spurred two wonderful vacations for my husband, Duane, and me.

Last summer we read Ambrose's D-Day, and followed it up with a trip to France to explore some of the battlefields. His descriptions of the places and the people brought these long- hallowed fields and beached to life for us.

We're a couple of mostly-retired boomers and big-time history buffs, and travel is one of our favorite indulgences. Combining travel with exploring the history of an area is what we do best!
