Border Crossings
A few days before Christmas, I was visiting a college friend in
Detroit. We decided to go to Windsor for lunch at this great
restaurant she was telling me about. We left in the late morning, had
lunch and talked and talked and talked, and window-shopped.
When we came back to Detroit in the late afternoon, the customs
gentlemen asked what our business had been and we said,"having
lunch". Did we have anything to declare? "No" we replied. He did not
believe us and made us get out of the car and open the trunk so he
could look. (We had my friend's dad's car so we were sure hoping that
there was nothing incriminating in that trunk). He was surprised that
there was nothing in it. Apparently, he could not believe that two
women just before Christmas could spend most of the day in Windsor,
Canada and not have bought anything.
